Annual leave calculator

Under the Employment Contracts Act an employee's basic annual leave is presumed to be 28 calendar days unless a longer leave has been agreed or the law provides otherwise (TLS § 55). The calculator also covers the leave of a minor (§ 56), of an employee with partial or no work ability (§ 57) and leave in proportion to the time that gives the right to it (§ 68).

Frequently asked questions

How many days of annual leave does an employee have in Estonia?

Basic annual leave is presumed to be 28 calendar days unless the employee and employer have agreed on a longer leave or the law provides otherwise (TLS § 55). An employee with partial or no work ability has 35 calendar days (TLS § 57).

How much leave does a minor have?

Until 31 December 2026 a minor's basic leave is 35 calendar days (TLS § 56). An amendment published in Riigi Teataja repeals § 56 from 1 January 2027; after that the 28-day leave of TLS § 55 applies to minors too, unless a longer leave is agreed.

How is leave calculated in the first year?

In the calendar year the employee starts work, leave for a period shorter than the calendar year is calculated in proportion to the time worked. The employee may demand leave after working for the employer for at least six months (TLS § 68 lg 4).

Do public holidays extend the leave?

Yes. The national holiday and public holidays are not counted in basic leave (TLS § 54 lg 3), so each holiday during the leave moves its end by one day.

When does leave expire?

The claim for basic leave expires one year after the end of the calendar year for which it is calculated. The period is suspended during maternity, paternity, adoption or parental leave and during conscript or alternative service (TLS § 68 lg 6).
