How to use LegalWise
1. Describe the situation
Write as you would to a lawyer: who (employee, tenant, company), what happened, when and under which contract. The more precise the facts, the more precise the answer. You can also refer to a provision directly, e.g. "TLS § 105".
2. Read the answer
An answer has a short answer, what the law says, how it is interpreted and what to do. The numbers [1], [2] point to the sources — click to see the exact text of the provision. A reference in the text, such as “TLS § 46 lg 3”, shows the wording of exactly that subsection when clicked; “Open in the act” opens the whole act at that place.
3. Sources
- Legislation — the provision with its Riigi Teataja reference and a link.
- Explanatory memoranda — what the legislator meant (only for the version in force).
- Case law — how the Supreme Court interprets the provision.
The mark "✓ Quotes, amounts and references checked against the sources" means the answer passed the automatic check.
4. Laws
In "Laws" you can find an act by its name or abbreviation, jump straight to a provision ("TLS 105"), read the whole text by chapter and see a provision's explanatory memorandum and case law (when logged in) and its earlier versions (on the Jurist plan).
5. The law as of a date
On the Jurist plan: choose a date in the "As of" field — the answer is based on the version of the laws in force on that day.
6. Document review
Open "Review", upload a contract (signed ASICE/BDOC files too) and choose the report language. The review continues even if you close the page.
7. Drafting a document
Open "Drafting", choose the type of document and enter the parties and the main terms. You get a draft with an explanation of which provisions the terms rely on and can download it as a Word file. Check the draft before use.
8. Following changes
Click "Follow changes" next to a source — you get an e-mail when the law changes or a new version is published.
9. Promo code
If you have a promo code (LW-XXXX-XXXX), just type it into the chat or the settings — the plan is activated at once.
10. Quick search from the address bar
Add LegalWise as a search engine in your browser and open a provision straight from the address bar: x tls 37 lg 2, x võs 42 lg 3 p 5, x gdpr 17 or x töölepingu seadus. Any other text runs the ordinary search.
- Chrome / Edge: visit legalwise.ee, open Settings → Search engine → Manage search engines and site search, find “LegalWise” and set the shortcut to x.
- Firefox: on a legalwise.ee page right-click the address bar and choose “Add LegalWise”, then Settings → Search and set the keyword to x.
